News on 1Malaysia shops


More 1Malaysia shops will be made available nationwide to allow more people to purchase necessary goods at affordable prices.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said currently the ministry was determining suitable areas for the shops.

He said there were plans to open 60 1Malaysia shops nationwide by the end of 2012 adding that 25 shops would be ready for business by the end of this year.

Ismail said 1Malaysia shops would give the people a choice of obtaining necessities at affordable prices.

The 1Malaysia shop or Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) is one of the initiatives to address the rising cost of living under the Government Transformation Programme (GTP), which was recently introduced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In addition to food items and healthcare through the 1Malaysia Clinic, Najib said the latest NKRA would also encompass other essentials that have direct effects on the people's well-being.

He also said the government would rely on the expertise of Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) to assist the relevant ministries and agencies together with the Cabinet Committee on Supply and Price led by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
